Teen accused of killing great-grandfather

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Police in Pennsylvania allege a 16-year-old boy killed his great-grandfather as part of a to-do list that also included killing the teen's father.

Luzerne County authorities and state police suspect Cody Lee shot and killed his 80-year-old great-grandfather Herbert before being disarmed by his father Scott, The (Wilkes Barre, Pa.) Times Leader reported Friday.

Cody Lee is being held without bail pending his trial on an open count of criminal homicide for the death of his great-grandfather.

Investigators said there had been tension between the teen and his great-grandfather prior to Wednesday's shooting.

Prosecutors maintain the youth, who was taken into custody early Thursday, showed a fellow high school student an outline of his plot a few hours before he shot his great-grandfather. His father avoided being killed by wrestling a rifle away from him, authorities said.

"Finding grandpa's guns. Kill grandpa. Find money. Find clothes. Wait for dad to get home. Kill dad. Call Josh. Leave with Josh," the outline read, referring to Cody Lee's friend Josh Gleco.

The Times Leader said a preliminary hearing for the teen is set for next Thursday.
