WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says he's "never seen anything like" the attacks on his former vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin.

McCain made the comments Tuesday in an interview with Fox News, the Washington publication Politico reported.

"I'm entertained and sometimes a little angry when I see this -- constant, vicious attacks by people on the left," McCain said. "I've never seen anything like it in all the years that I've been in politics, the viciousness and the personalization of the attacks on Sarah Palin."

Politico noted McCain didn't mention some of the harshest criticism of the former Alaska governor has come from former members of his own presidential campaign.

"I'm proud of the job she's doing," McCain said. "And I believe that she will play a major role in the politics in America. Americans like her, whether The New York Times and others happen to like that or not."
