Floods threaten from Texas to Ohio Valley

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Heavy rains that led to treacherous flooding in Texas moved toward the Great Lakes region and the lower Mississippi Valley Thursday, forecasters said.

Moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Rick in the Gulf of Mexico threatened more flash flooding and travel disruption, AccuWeather.com reported.

Heavy rain that flooded Houston, Tyler and Fort Worth, Texas, will spread eastward across the Gulf Coast states through Friday, the report said. Rainfall totals are expected to be less than Texas experienced but will likely be enough to bring flash flooding.

Rain continuing through Friday will result in rising river levels and some homes could be threatened.

The Great Lakes region and the Northeast can expect rain through Friday, with 2 to 4 inches falling in most areas, and some spots getting higher amounts from the mid-Mississippi Valley to western Ohio.

The flooding could force officials to close portions of area roads, including interstates 20, 40, 45 and 55, AccuWeather.com said. Air travelers were urged to check for possible delays.
