N.Y. man suing over parking spot clash

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A sushi chef in New York alleges in a lawsuit that another man struck him with a car because he was holding a parking spot for a friend.

Ke Hai Du, 40, alleges while he was attempting to hold a parking spot for his manager Oct. 9, Paul Todd attempted to take the space by slowly approaching Du until Todd's car struck the sushi chef in the knees, the New York Post said Wednesday.

Attorney Lawrence Glynn, who is representing Du, alleges Todd then accelerated and hit Du again, leaving the chef with a broken foot.

Glynn alleges Todd fled the scene in his car when an ambulance arrived to take Du to the hospital.

"You don't use your car as a deadly weapon," Glynn said.

Du, who also suffered torn ligaments as a result of the incident, said police officers treated the altercation as a simple traffic incident and Todd was not arrested or charged with assault.

The Post said Du is seeking $5 million in damages for his pain and suffering resulting from Todd's alleged actions.
