Three plotted suicide operations in London

LONDON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Three men charged with terrorism-related crimes in Birmingham, England, last week were plotting suicide operations, a court said.

British security officials arrested six men and one woman last weekend in a sweeping counter-terrorism raid. They were arrested on suspicion of plotting to carry out, prepare or instigate an act of terrorism in the United Kingdom.

Two of suspects were charged with making martyrdom tapes, training for terrorist operations in Pakistan and collecting money for terrorists, London's Guardian newspaper reports. A third man was charged with collecting money for terrorism operations and for stating his intent to become a suicide bomber, the newspaper adds.

Four homegrown Islamic radicals set off explosive devices on London subway trains and a double-decker bus in July 2005, killing 52 people and leaving more than 700 injured.

London and Washington are examining the terrorism threat posed by homegrown radicals.

British Home Secretary Theresa May in July statements said London would address the ideological aspects of domestic, homegrown threats.
