Beijing, Seoul to discuss DPRK nukes

BEIJING, March 28 (UPI) -- Talks between Beijing and Seoul will focus on the uranium enrichment program in North Korea, the South Korean government said.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan left Monday for talks with his counterpart in Beijing. Seoul said the meetings are to focus on the North Korean nuclear program, reports China's official Xinhua news agency.

Seoul and its allies in Washington believe Pyongyang is skirting its international obligations after a series of nuclear tests and attacks on South Korean vessels last year.

Seoul accuses the North Korean government of jamming its military communications equipment during military operations in coordination with the United States in the region in early March. North Korea said the military exercise was a preparation for war.

The diplomatic exchange in Beijing comes as South Korean activists announced plans to restart the distribution of anti-government pamphlets into North Korea, The Korea Times reports.

Park Sang Hak, head of Fighters for a Free North Korea, announced plans to stage demonstrations and launch a propaganda campaign in North Korea to coordinate with the April 15 birthday of North Korean founder Kim Il Sung.
