Officials say credible intelligence led to a compound where the suspect was found and taken into custody for alleged ties to militant forces. The suspect is currently being interrogated. Minor damage occurred to buildings during the operation, but no injuries or deaths to non-combatants were reported.

Additionally, an improvised explosive device detonated in Gereshk City, Helmand province near a mosque Friday killing four Afghan National Police officers and wounding seven others.

“Taliban and foreign fighters are notorious for rigging improvised explosive devices to kill and terrorize Afghan non-combatants,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force 82 spokesman, in a statement. “Afghan National Security and Coalition forces are committed to protecting and supporting the lives of all citizens.”

Officials say emergency medical treatment was provided by coalition forces at the scene. The seven wounded are listed in critical condition.
