Man sought in death of wife, five kids

NAPLES, Fla., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A man being sought by police in Florida in the slaying of his wife and five children has traveled to Haiti, the man's father said.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office called Mesac Damas, 33, a person of interest and asked the public for help in locating him, after the six victims were found dead in their home Saturday evening. Damas' father, Jean Damas Sr., Sunday told the Naples (Fla.) Daily News his son had gone to Haiti.

"He called his brother from there," the elder Damas told the newspaper.

Jean Damas Sr. did not say when Mesac Damas made the telephone call. Investigators said they believed Mesac Damas flew to Haiti Friday morning.

When asked if he thought his son may have killed Guerline Dieu, and their children -- Michzach, 9; Marven, 6; Maven, 5; Megan, 3; and Morgan, 11 months -- the elder Damas said, "yes, yes, I do," the Daily News said. He said his daughter-in-law had "no respect" for his son, who thought she was seeing someone else.

Gueline Dieu's brother, Foren Dieui, 37, told the Fort Myers (Fla.) News-Press he had been notified by police that the victims' throats were slit.

"In no uncertain terms this is the most horrific and violent event this community has ever experienced," Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.

Court records indicate Mesac Damas was charged in a domestic violence case against his wife and children in June 2005, the Daily News said. Records also indicate he brought domestic violence charges against his wife as well in 2006.
