Rep. Wilson: Won't apologize to House

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., says he will not apologize to his colleagues for shouting "You lie!" at President Barack Obama in the House chamber last week.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Wilson said House Democratic leaders are "playing politics" with the incident by demanding an apology after his personal apologies to Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were offered and accepted.

"I've apologized one time," Wilson said. "The apology was accepted by the president, by the vice president, who I know. I am not apologizing again."

Even while offering an apology to the president, Wilson continued to defend his actions, insisting that Obama was indeed "misstating the facts" when he said during a speech to Congress on Thursday that his proposed healthcare reforms wouldn't give taxpayer-supplied medical services to illegal immigrants.

"The Democrats are playing politics," he said. "And this is just a way to divert attention from a bill that would cost 1.6 million jobs, according to the National Federation of Independent Business. It's a diversion from people looking at the bill and the concerns about this bill."
