Official: Lifeguards taped while changing

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A park supervisor in Freeport, N.Y., says nearly 15 young lifeguards were videotaped by a security camera placed in the site's changing room.

Martin Luther King Jr. Park supervisor Robert Eberhart said town officials allegedly placed the camera in the changing room, which is used by lifeguards as young as 16, for security purposes, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Eberhart said the camera, which was in place all summer at the park, was not discovered until Friday.

"They've been changing in front of the camera the whole summer without knowing it," he told the Post.

Lifeguard Meghan Leonard, who discovered the changing room camera, said she is concerned with who has access to the footage from the surveillance equipment.

"My trust is betrayed," Leonard, 22, said. "I don't know who is seeing the footage."

James Beauford, a Freeport Recreation Center supervisor, insisted the footage from the camera has been destroyed, the Post reported.
