Teacher resigns following assault charge

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A St. Louis teacher has resigned from her school post after being accused of assaulting a wheelchair-bound Busch Stadium usher, authorities say.

Police allege St. Margaret of Scotland School teacher Bridget Matarazzi attempted to push an usher out of his wheelchair at the St. Louis Cardinals stadium last weekend following a confrontation, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Thursday.

Last Saturday's conflict began when the usher approached Matarazzi, 25, regarding her public drunkenness, police allege.

Matarazzi, who taught language arts and social studies at St. Margaret, was charged with third-degree assault in the incident.

The Post-Dispatch said a 25-year-old woman also involved in Saturday's incident was accused of hitting a stadium alcohol compliance manager. No charges against the resident of Fenton, Mo., were reported.
