Children stage Shalit kidnapping

A family handout photograph shows abducted Israeli soldier Cpl.Gilad Shalit when he was a senior in high school in 2005. Israel accused the Iranian government of paying $50 million to block a deal that would have freed the Israeli soldier captured by Hamas-linked militants who crossed from Gaza into Israel on June 25. Israel's U.N. Ambassador Dan Gillerman told the UN Security Council that "we heard news" earlier in the day on Thursday that Tehran bribed Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal "to sabotage the negotiations on the release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit and prevent his release." Iranian diplomat Mansour Sadeghi told the council his goverment "catergorically rejected" the allegations against his country made by Israel, dismissing Gillerman's allegations as "baseless and absurd." JERUSALEM, July 27 (UPI) -- Palestinian children re-enacted the abduction of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit at a ceremony at a Hamas-run summer camp, photos showed.

Based on pictures received by The Jerusalem Post, Osama Mazini, a senior Hamas political official charged with negotiating Shalit's release with Israel, attended the ceremony.

Approximately 120,000 Palestinian children participate in Hamas-run summer camps in Gaza, and approximately 250,000 Palestinian children attend summer camps held by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, the paper said.

This is not the first time Hamas has staged Shalit's abduction. Last year at its 21st anniversary celebration attended by tens of thousands in Gaza, a Hamas member dressed up as Shalit was led on stage and pleaded for his life in Hebrew.

A report published by Israel's Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center last year said children attending Hamas-run camps are not only brainwashed with Hamas ideology, but also receive semi-military training.
