Texas cop killer's execution delayed

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, July 15 (UPI) -- A Texas death row inmate slated for execution this week got a temporary reprieve, prosecutors say.

Kenneth Mosley was to have been put to death Thursday. But The Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday the Dallas County district attorney's office asked for a postponement until Sept. 24, apparently because the governor and lieutenant governor will both be out of state.

One of the two top state executives is required to be in the state when executions are conducted, the newspaper said.

Mosley, 50, was convicted of killing Garland police officer Michael David Moore in 1997.

Moore, 32, was shot several times when responding to bank robbery call.
