Chinese leader lauds Thai ties

BEIJING, June 26 (UPI) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Thailand Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in Beijing Friday to stress closer ties between the nations, officials said.

Hu called Thailand a reliable friend and good partner of China in Southeast Asia. He said China placed great importance on its relations with Thailand and was ready to deepen bilateral links, Xinhua, the official, state-run Chinese news service, reported.

It was Abhisit's first official visit to China since he took office last December.
