WARSAW, Poland, June 3 (UPI) -- The Gypsy minority in East European countries is experiencing terror by far-right extremists preparing for the European Parliament polls, Gypsy leaders say.
Gypsy activists in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, claim they live in an atmosphere that is the most hostile since the Nazi German regime of Adolf Hitler sent them to death camps during World War II, the U.K. Telegraph online reported Wednesday.
In its report from Warsaw, Poland, the Telegraph said many of Western European countries turn a blind eye to growing discrimination and hate-showing moves against Romanies, as Gypsies are formally called.
Mobs organized by far-right parties assault and even kill Gypsies in Hungary and the Czech Republic.
