Iran considers amending election law

TEHRAN, May 10 (UPI) -- The lure of leading Iran has drawn 475 candidates to register for the presidential election, federal elections officials said Sunday.

The country's Guardian Council has the task of screening the hopefuls and narrowing the field for the June 12 poll, council spokesman Karmran Daneshjoo said.

Meanwhile, Iran's election laws are being reviewed for possible amendment, Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli said Sunday.

Mahsouli provided few details other than to say aspects of the election laws were inadequate and being reviewed by the Expediency Council, IRNA, the state-run news agency reported.
