KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 27 (UPI) -- Heavy rain reported in Kansas, Missouri and Texas closed major roads and put communities on alert for flash flooding Monday, state officials said.
Some highways were closed in northeast Kansas with flooding reported in the low-lying areas of greater Kansas City, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported.
The storm moved over northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri Sunday night dropping 2.5 inches of rain at Kansas City International Airport and as much as 6 inches of rain on Wichita and other parts of central and eastern Kansas, the National Weather Service said.
Northeastern Texas and southern Missouri were forecast to expect violent storms capable of producing hail and damaging winds, including tornadoes, Accuweather.com said.
Areas from West Texas and the Oklahoma Panhandle to central Illinois and western Indiana were forecast to have isolated severe storms Monday night.
