TBILISI, Georgia, April 11 (UPI) -- Opposition leaders said Saturday's protest in Tbilisi, Georgia, was intended to force President Mikhail Saakashvili to resign.

The BBC said Saturday's protest in the capital marked a third straight day of protests in Georgia all with the intention of forcing Saakashvili to quit in recognition of Georgia's 2008 conflict with Russia.

Russia conducted raids of Georgian territory last August following Georgia's aggressive actions against South Ossetia, a runaway Georgian Republic. Saakashvili has been the focus of opposition blame for the conflict's fallout.

Alliance for Georgia leader Irakly Alasania said at a protest Friday that he and his fellow opposition leaders will meet with Saakashvili as long as certain parameters are honored by the president, ITAR-TASS reported.

"Mikhail Saakashvili said he was ready to meet with opposition leaders. We are also ready to meet but only if this meeting is filmed by TV cameras and involves prominent public figures," Alasania said.

"A meeting with Mikhail Saakashvili is necessary," opposition official Levan Gachechiladze offered. "This meeting will not stop our protest, it will continue."
