CHICAGO, March 28 (UPI) -- The mayor of a Chicago suburb says he'd like to move the St. Patrick's Day parade to his neighborhood now that it's been banished from the city's South Side.
"We just won't allow the drinking and shenanigans. We'd have police on every corner watching, and if someone causes trouble, we'll lock 'em up," said James Sexton, mayor of Evergreen Park.
The Irish Parade committee voted Tuesday to cancel the parade after 31 years because it had gotten too big and too rowdy for Chicago's South Side, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.
Sexton said he'd gotten about 400 responses as of Friday to an e-mail he sent to the community regarding the parade. The responses were evenly divided on whether to host the parade, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Saturday.
"If we don't get a strong consensus, we won't do it," Sexton said.
