ALBUQUERQUE, March 23 (UPI) -- A deputy who pulled his gun on a 70-year-old woman during a traffic stop was obeying standard procedure, say sheriff's officials in Albuquerque.
Deputy Richard Castillo drew his gun after Margaret King failed to pull over promptly and then started to open her driver's side door, said Castillo's report for the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office.
Failing to stop and opening a car door signals danger for deputies, Undersheriff Sal Baragiola told the Albuquerque Journal in a story published Monday.
King, however, said she's "still shaken" a month after Castillo stopped her for allegedly speeding while she was en route to the post office.
"I started to open the door, turned around and he had the gun pointed right at me," said King, who denied speeding. "I thought I was a dead duck."
