Octuplets granddad seeks pass for daughter

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The grandfather of the Los Angeles octuplets' mother told Oprah Winfrey this week that his daughter shouldn't be punished for her multiple birth.

Ed Doud, Nadya Suleman's father, told the television talk show host that the public should cut Suleman and her 14 children a break even though he admitted he had to "question her mental situation."

"Do not punish my daughter for what she had done and do not punish the babies, because they were given by God," Doud said.

Doud was less charitable about the Beverly Hills fertility doctor that got the ball rolling on the multiple births, calling it "absolutely irresponsible."
