WOODBURN, Ore., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Authorities said they had a suspect in custody Monday in the Woodburn, Ore., bank bombing that killed two police explosives experts.
The town's police chief and a bank employee were injured.
Joshua Abraham Turnidge, 32, of North Salem was arrested Sunday night in the Salem area, The Oregonian reported. He was expected to be arraigned Tuesday, the Portland newspaper said.
The blast Friday evening at West Coast Bank killed Woodburn Police Capt. Tom Tennant and Oregon State Police Senior Trooper William Hakim, both bomb squad technicians.
Woodburn Police Chief Scott Russell was in critical condition at OHSU Hospital. An unidentified bank employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The Marion County sheriff's office told The Oregonian Turnidge was arrested on multiple charges, including manufacture of a destructive device, possession of destructive device, assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and six counts of aggravated murder.
"The arrest was the result of an intensive round-the-clock investigation by an interagency task force comprised of federal, state, county, and city public safety agencies," Marion County Sheriff Russ Isham said. "I'm really proud of those who tirelessly worked to get us to this point and am humbled by the community's support. We know there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us, but this development will help bring relief to the local community and the officers' families."
