Stewart wants Simpson conviction apology

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Clarence Stewart, convicted on robbery charges in Las Vegas along with O.J. Simpson, says he wants an apology from the former football star.

The 54-year-old friend of Simpson said as the pair awaits a Dec. 5 sentencing date on the robbery convictions, he has had a difficult time coming to terms with the possible life sentence he may receive, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday.

Stewart also said he feels Simpson should apologize for allegedly convincing him to take part in the 2007 robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station hotel in Las Vegas.

"O.J. owes me an apology," he said. "You can't play with a person's life."

The Review-Journal said Stewart tried to downplay his relationship with the former NFL player and actor, saying he and Simpson were not the very close friends as prosecutors in the case made them out to be.

"They made it look like we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together," he said.

The newspaper noted Stewart failed in his attempt to be tried separately from Simpson and his attorney failed to earn a new trial amid allegations of jury misconduct.
