Victim admits trying to cash in on Simpson

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A sports collectible dealer acknowledged Tuesday he tried to sell his story to "Inside Edition" after an alleged robbery by O.J. Simpson in a Nevada hotel.

Bruce Fromong, who brought proceedings at Simpson's trial to a halt Monday when he said he was sick, was grilled by defense attorney Gabriel Grasso Tuesday, The New York Times reported. Jurors heard a tape made surreptitiously shortly after the alleged robbery.

"I'll have 'Inside Edition' down here tomorrow," Fromong said. "I told them I want big money."

Fromong said Monday he went to the hotel room expecting to meet a major collector of sports memorabilia. He said Simpson and five other men entered the room, and that at least two of the men were carrying guns.

Simpson told his cohorts not to let anyone out of the room, Fromong told jurors.

Simpson, who was acquitted in 1995 of killing his wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ron Goldman, could face a life sentence if convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery in the memorabilia case. Simpson maintains he was just trying to get back items that belonged to him.
