HARARE, Zimbabwe, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai were to resume power-sharing discussions, a Tsvangirai spokesman said.

The meeting would be the first face-to-face conference between the two political rivals since the talks began two weeks ago, CNN reported.

U.N. envoy Haile Menkerios also was to attend Thursday's meeting in Harare, Tsvangirai spokesman George Sibotshiwe said.

Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, was offered a vice presidency in the country's government, while Mugabe and two existing vice presidency positions would remain in power, a source close to the talks said. Negotiations broke down because Tsvangirai reportedly wanted a greater role in Zimbabwe's governance.

Mugabe won a controversial election in which Tsvangirai pulled out, claiming his supporters were the victims of state-sanctioned violence and harassment.
