LONDON, March 26 (UPI) -- An 81-year-old British motorist says she was merely following the signs when she wound up driving the wrong way on the highway.
The retired florist simply followed the sign for Blackburn when she entered a roundabout near her home in Darwen and found herself stuck on the M65 in Lancashire for 15 miles.
"At first I didn't think there was anything wrong," Harwood told the Daily Mail Wednesday. "Then I saw cars coming towards me. It was quite scary and I didn't know what to do. There was nowhere for me to turn around so I just kept going."
Harwood soldiered on for about 15 miles as cars swerved to avoid her. One car crashed into the center divide, causing four minor injuries.
Police told the Daily Mail they received cell phone calls from hundreds of other drivers during Harwood's jaunt.
