LONDON, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The former butler to Britain's Princess Diana has been asked to return to Britain to give additional evidence in the inquest into the royal's death.
Paul Burrell, who Diana once referred to as "my rock," has been asked to give further evidence to the High Court of London after his initial testimony was characterized as being full of "red herrings," The Independent reported Saturday.
The decision was made by the coroner in the inquest, Lord Justice Scott Baker, and was announced in an online statement.
"The coroner has asked Mr. Burrell to return to court to explain discrepancies between the evidence he gave to the inquest and the material which is contained in the transcripts of the recording taken by The Sun newspaper," that statement read.
The judicial situation arose after a video clip featuring Burrell shows the former royal family butler apparently admitting to misleading the court regarding Diana's 1997 death.
"I was very naughty and I made a couple of red herrings and I know I couldn't help doing it," The Independent quoted Burrell as saying in the clip.
