Snowmobile party rescued in Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Sheriff's deputies in Colorado said they rescued seven snowmobilers who had spent a cold night stuck in the deep snow on Grand Mesa.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department told The Denver Post the party was found early Sunday after a rescue team spotted the fire they had built for warmth.

The stranded group was from the Grand Junction area and included 9-year-old Josh Smith, who said everyone remained calm.

"We knew where we were," Smith told the Post. "We just couldn't get back up from where we came so we just gathered everyone up and stayed put and got a good fire going."

No one was injured in the ordeal.
