NEW YORK, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- More than 400 schools in Massachusetts were closed Monday as a winter storm dumped snow on the U.S. Northeast.
Burlington, Conn., reported 6.3 inches of snow had fallen, while Northampton, Mass., reported 4 inches, AccuWeather.com reported.
The northern Plains states braced for an arctic blast as well. AccuWeather said temperatures in recent days across Alaska have averaged 10 to 20 degrees below average, and that system was expected to push south and result in below-zero temperatures in the northern Plains.
National Weather Service meteorologist Glenn Field told ABC's "Good Morning America" that "It's been an interesting January." He noted how last week Indianapolis hit 68 degrees, while Monday's forecast was a high of 31 degrees. He said New York warmed to 64 degrees, but Monday's high was 35.
AccuWeather said there was another storm developing along the Gulf Coast expected to move north and deliver more snow to the New England area this week.
