Giraffe figure only clue to ID of corpse

PARK CITY, Ill., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Investigators in a Chicago suburb hope an old figurine of a giraffe can help identify a homeless man discovered dead in a park.

The man, who had been dead about a month when found, had no identification, The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reported. A person searching for a homeless friend found the body in a Lake County Greenbelt Preserve area in Park City known as a campsite for the homeless, County Coroner Richard Keller said.

In addition to the 14-inch-high giraffe, investigators found clothing and the remains of what appeared to be a tent.

An autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death. Police said there were no signs the man's death was violent or unnatural, but the death is being investigated as a suspicious one.

"I'm hoping that someone will recognize the giraffe," Keller said.
