Pair held in deadly S. African crime spree

GEORGETOWN, South Africa, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Police in Georgetown, South Africa, say two men in custody are linked to a violent and deadly crime spree that terrorized the region for three weeks.

Sibusiso Duma, 24, and Simphiwe Christopher Khesi, 33, face charges ranging from car thefts, drive-by shootings, murder, kidnapping and rape, Natal's Sunday Tribune reported.

Police sources who asked not to be identified said investigators were trying to connect the crimes that were committed between Oct. 4-26.

The men are also charged with the abduction and rape of a 17-year-old woman left for dead in a cemetery after being raped, shot at and run over by a car. Because of heavy sedation for her injuries, detectives have been unable to get details of her attack, the newspaper said.

The execution-style shooting deaths of three men are also suspected of being part of the men's spree, the report said.
