WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Nine-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives David Hobson, R-Ohio, has announced he will retire when his term ends next year.
At a Washington party for his upcoming 71st birthday, Hobson said it was time to let younger people come forward, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported Monday.
"I've always looked at people who are older and thought, 'why don't the old people get out of the way and let the young people come?' I didn't want people looking at me in that vein," said Hobson, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
His departure marks the fourth loss of Republicans for the state since September, the report said.
Rep. Paul Gillmor died that month and since both Reps. Deborah Pryce and Ralph Regula have announced they won't seek re-election when the congressional terms end after next year's elections.
