KATHMANDU, India, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- The interim government in Nepal announced Monday it would expand the nationalization of the monarchy's property.

The Nepalese government is debating the eradication of the country's monarchy at a special parliamentary session, the Press Trust of India reports.

The government nationalized the properties of the late monarch, King Birendra, that were inherited by his successor, King Gyanendra.

The government decided to spend the funds from the trust established for the nationalization on welfare issues, PTI said.

Nepal's political future remains in limbo as Nepalese officials ruled Friday to postpone the upcoming elections to the Constitutional Assembly that had been slated for Nov. 22.
