Tourist photo may show missing McCann

LONDON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Interpol experts in Britain and Portugal are trying to determine if a girl seen in a tourist's digital photograph is missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.

The photo was taken by a Spanish tourist in Zinat in northern Morocco on Aug. 31. It shows a blond girl being carried by a woman in Moroccan dress, CNN reported.

The tourist, Clara Torres, said she felt badly 25 days had been lost before she spotted the similarity to the girl who went missing on May 3 in Portugal.

"The moment I realized, I handed over the photo to the authorities," Torres said.

Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for the girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, would not tell Sky News about the couple's reaction to the news.

"You can imagine the emotional roller coaster that causes Gerry and Kate each time this sort of information comes in," Mitchell said. "But it is an image and it does appear, on the face of it, to look like Madeleine and it clearly raises some very fundamental questions."

The couple was having dinner at a restaurant on May 3 when the girl disappeared from their nearby hotel room.
