Spain: ETA may have base in Portugal

MADRID, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The Basque separatist group ETA may have a base in Portugal, officials in Spain's Interior Ministry say.

Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said the Spanish government has evidence ETA used vehicles purchased in Portugal in last week's bombing in the Spanish city of Durango, the EFE news agency reported.

Two officers were wounded in the attack.

ETA has been fighting for an independent homeland along the Spanish-French border for more than 30 years. Bombings and other attacks attributed to the group have left more than 850 dead.
