Freak parasail accident injures teens

POMPANO BEACH, Fla., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Two Florida teenagers remained hospitalized Monday following a weekend parasailing accident in Pompano Beach triggered by gusty winds.

Crystal and Amber White were injured when the rope that tethered them to the boat snapped, sending the girls past the shoreline and into the second floor of the Beachcomber resort, The Miami Herald reported.

Amber, 15, was in critical condition at Broward General Medical Center while her sister, Crystal, 17, was no longer in intensive care.

Neighbors Holly and Jeff Lynn, who took the girls parasailing, felt they should have been warned that weather conditions were less than ideal.

At 12:23 on Saturday the National Weather Service said thunderstorms and a line of showers were capable of producing winds of up to 30 mph near where Crystal and Amber were parasailing.

"My wife even asked if it would be too windy," Lynn said. "The boat (driver) told us 'It will be fine. I've done 10,000 pulls and it is completely safe.'"
