Edwards calls Ann Coulter a 'she-devil'

BURLINGTON, Iowa, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., campaigning in Iowa Friday, called right-wing columnist Ann Coulter a “she-devil."

The Democratic presidential candidate, speaking to an audience in Burlington, attacked conservative talk-show hosts and Fox News, ABC News reported.

"We know these people. We know their game plan,” Edwards said. “They're going to attack us personally. They attacked (his wife) Elizabeth personally, because she stood up to that she-devil Ann Coulter. … I should not have name-called. But the truth is -- forget the names -- people like Ann Coulter, they engage in hateful language."

The personal feud between Edwards and Coulter dates back to a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference when she called him a “faggot.”

In a June appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America," Coulter said she had learned her lesson about calling Edwards that name.

"If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot," Coulter said.

Elizabeth Edwards telephoned the MSNBC show, "Hardball,” during a live appearance by coulter and said she wanted to ask the right-wing pundit "politely to stop the personal attacks."
