Chief Justice Roberts out of hospital

WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- The White House was aware of U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts' previous seizure before nominating him to the court, it was reported Tuesday.

Roberts, who was released Tuesday from a hospital in Maine, spoke Tuesday morning with President George W. Bush, who was reassured Roberts would be fine, said White House spokesman Tony Snow.

Roberts was hospitalized Monday in Rockport, Maine, after suffering a seizure that caused him to fall at his summer home on an island in Port Clyde, Maine.

Bush was aware when he nominated Roberts to the court that Roberts had suffered a similar "benign idiopathic seizure" in 1993, Snow said. An idiopathic seizure is one with no identifiable physiological cause.

A neurological evaluation performed Monday on Roberts revealed no cause for concern, CNN reported.
