MLK recording auction planned

ATLANTA, July 17 (UPI) -- An Atlanta auction house plans to auction more than 20 audio recordings of Martin Luther King Jr. next month.

The recordings contain speeches and interviews of King from the collections of two journalists, Paul Brown, owner of Gallery 63 where the auction is to be held, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Some of the material has not been heard in 40 years, he said.

The gallery had planned to auction King-related papers in April but was stopped by the late civil rights leader's family, which claimed ownership of the materials was not clear.

The Aug. 4-5 auction may be harder to challenge because ownership of the recordings is clear, the newspaper said.
