DURHAM, N.C., July 13 (UPI) -- The former North Carolina district attorney who was involved in the Duke lacrosse case will be getting the bill for the hearing that cost him his law license.
Mike Nifong was ordered by the state bar to pay the administrative costs of last month's disciplinary hearing, a tab expected to total several thousand dollars.
The Raleigh (N.C.) News and Observer reported Friday that the bar order described Nifong as being selfish and involved in a pattern of misconduct. Nifong had filed charges alleging that an African-American stripper had been sexually assaulted at a Duke lacrosse team party. The charges were later dropped and Nifong resigned under pressure.
The newspaper said further financial fallout was expected when the families of the accused lacrosse players seek to recover their own legal expenses, which total more than $3 million.
