Report: Hamas negotiating Shalit swap

TEL AVIV, Israel, July 6 (UPI) -- Hamas prisoners held in Israel are reportedly negotiating a prisoner exchange that would include the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

The al-Halig newspaper, which is published in the United Arab Emirates, reported that Hamas had authorized its senior members in Israeli prisons to negotiate the deal, Ynetnews reported.

Shalit was captured last year near Gaza.

Dr. Ayman Draghmeh, a Hamas representative on the Palestinian Legislative Council, told al-Halig the two sides have met several times.

Draghmeh said Hamas has demanded that Israeli Arabs and east Jerusalem residents be included in the exchange, Ynetnews said.
