Colombia makes record cocaine bust

BOGOTA, May 1 (UPI) -- Colombia's navy has seized more than 28 tons of cocaine, the largest bust in the country's history, according to Colombian officials.

"This is the greatest amount of tons of cocaine ever seized," said Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos, El Tiempo reported Tuesday.

The drugs -- found in an estuary west of the capital, Bogota -- are reportedly worth half a billion dollars.

Colombia is the world's largest producer of cocaine.
