Mexican president unsure kin are legal

MEXICO CITY, March 15 (UPI) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon said he wasn't sure whether his relatives working in the United States were there legally, the Washington Times reported.

"I do have family in the United States, and what I can tell you is that these are people who work and respect that country," said Calderon. "I have not seen them in a long time and do not know their migratory status."

The Mexican leader's remarks came on the second day of President George W. Bush's two-day visit to Mexico, where Bush publicly promised to reform U.S. immigration policy.

"If people can come into our country, for example on a temporary basis to work, doing jobs Americans aren't doing, they won't have to sneak across the border," said Bush.

Bush's visit to Mexico was the last stop on his Latin America tour, which also included stops in Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Guatemala.
