At the rally in Gaza, the chairman of the Hamas faction in parliament accused Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of declaring war on the will of the Palestinian people.

Khalil al-Haya accused members of the Presidential Guard of launching an assassination attempt against Prime Minister Haniyeh on Thursday. The attempt failed but one of Haniyeh's bodyguards was killed and his son and several others were injured.

"We will fight with force for the voter's choice against those who want to bring about a coup," Haya said.
