Bolivia won't nationalize mines now

LA PAZ, Bolivia, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales has decided to hold off on nationalizing the country's mining industry for the time being, La Razon reported Tuesday.

Morales, who earlier this year began the process of nationalizing the country's lucrative gas industry, said Bolivia currently could not afford to do the same with its mines.

The mines would return to state hands one day, Morales promised.

Last month 16 people were killed in clashes between rival mining groups over the rights to a particularly profitable tin mine.
