Georgia police arrest 2nd alleged bigamist

ATLANTA, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Gwinnett County, Ga. arrested a man for allegedly having seven wives, marking the second alleged bigamist they have arrested in the last month.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that 34-year-old William James Fairley turned himself over to authorities Thursday to face charges he had married seven women without divorcing them and may have recently wed an eighth.

Earlier this month Gwinnett police arrested 38-year-old Alvin Murdock on five counts of bigamy. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are investigating to determine if the marriages were linked to illegal immigrants seeking citizenship.

The report said police suspect it may be the same case with Fairley, who authorities speculate married women to make them legal U.S. residents.

The paper said the women, all from Atlanta, will not face charges in either case.
