LIMA, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Former Peruvian spy chief Vladimiro Montesinos has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in an illegal arms deal, El Comcercio reported Friday.
The 61-year-old Montesinos was convicted of selling arms to the left-wing Colombian rebel group known as the Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia.

The former spy chief was already serving a lengthy term for plotting to overthrow the government and corruption charges.
Montesinos still faces charges of allegedly creating a paramilitary group to hunt down enemies of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori.
