Feds investigate Ill. gov campaign

CHICAGO, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's campaign denies allegations it sought campaign contributions from a firm wanting to do business with the state.

The Chicago Sun-Times says federal investigators are looking into claims that Capri/Capital Advisors was pushed to donate money to Blagojevich in 2004 as a condition for securing a $220 million state pension fund deal.

Sources familiar with the investigation told the Sun-Times that Capri rejected the request but eventually got the business.

The Blagojevich campaign denied any wrongdoing in the matter. Campaign spokeswoman Sheila Nix said no donations were solicited from Capri by the campaign and no donations were from the firm, the newspaper said.
