Train crash kills at least 50 in Egypt

CAIRO, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Two trains packed with commuters collided during rush hour Monday near Cairo, Egypt, killing at least 50 and injuring 138 people.

One of the trains ran into the other which has stopped just outside a station in Qalyoub, 12 miles from Cairo, a railway official was quoted as saying, reports the BBC.

Several cars derailed and one of the trains caught fire, the report said.

Both trains were headed to Cairo from the Nile Delta. Some local reports suggested one of the trains may have failed to observe a stop signal outside Qalyoub train station.
