Lech Kaczynski accepted Marcinkiewicz's resignation Friday amid political tensions in their conservative Law and Justice party.

The twin brothers Kaczynski have been involved in disagreements with Poland's neighbors, Germany, France and Russia and European Union's partners.

The leadership of the ruling Law and Justice party has nominated Marcinkiewicz, considered one of Poland's most popular politicians, as its candidate for the mayor of Warsaw in upcoming local elections.
